Planning and preparation Its no surprise that you are building an online shop, so why wait until its finished and live before marketing it? You should already know who your target market is, and have formulated a plan to communicate with them.
Search engine work You should have ensured that the cart you opted for is search engine friendly. Its time to start testing this out.
Pay Per Click If you can't wait until your site is on the first page of Google, use pay per click to get instant, targeted traffic. Please make sure that your chosen cart can tell you where your purchasers are coming from to make the most of your spend.
Get your site spidered Find out which sites are doing well for your chosen key phrases in the search engines. Some of them will be directory sites which often don't charge for a simple listing. Send them a polite e-mail asking for a link or an entry.
Tell your existing clients It may be more convenient for existing or previous clients to order via your web site. Make sure they know its there.
Don't lose faith! Stick with the plan and don't give up. You can make it work and you can make it profitable, provided you get good advice and take an interest in your site.
