You won't hear many web companies talk about the disadvantages of CMS but there are some, and if you are considering using a CMS solution you need to be aware of the common pitfalls.
What about making the webite accessible? The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) does apply to websites. Our CMS has accessibility built right in - nothing extra to pay, no extras work to do.
What is content management? Content Management means that you are in control of your web site content. You are not relying on web developers to update your content for you. More importantly, you do not have to pay maintenance charges, saving you money.
What if we have a special requirement? Because we developed this system we are able to bolt on modules are they are required. For example, we have developed a recruitment module, a used car sales module, buffet menu ordering and an e-commerce module. We are happy to quote for your business.
Do I need any special software on my computer? Our content management system runs on the server. This means that you can connect and change your website from any PC with an internet connection, anywhere in the world. This gives you the ultimate in flexibility. If you are getting your computer fixed, changing computers or want to work from the office or home, there are no tricky installations to do.
Are CMS search engine friendly ? Some are, some aren't. Ours are, and if you are looking to make a decision on a CMS purchase, you should seek to be assured of their search engine friendliness. Things that will hinder the Seach Engines are question marks in the page names like this 'www.cms.co.uk/page.asp?ref=toast' appearing in the browser address bar.
Can I add whole new pages on a CMS? On ours you can, but on many you are only able to edit content, not add complete new sections or even change page names. This is a seriously limiting factor and you should not consider buying a CMS where you cannot add whole new pages or sections. A bad sign is if the navigation uses graphics or buttons instead of text. When you add a new page, you have to get a new button done by the designer.
How expensive is it compared to 'normal' sites? If you have 20 pages or 1000 pages, the cost is the same! That's the great thing about content management, its all done via a database, so its fully scalable. One of our content management systems can grow with your business and change as you change. If you ever think your site will have more than 10 pages, or you will make more than 10 changes to your site, our content management will save you money.
